Electron-excitation and electron-capture processes in low-energy (0.8-4 keV) Be + -He collisions have been studied by means of the differential-scattering technique (laboratory angles 0.7-20 degrees ). At energies below 1.5 keV and scattering angles below 5.5 degrees , the cross sections for direct excitation of Be + (2s) to Be + (2p) are at least an order of magnitude larger than for other inelastic processes and they vary smoothly with energy and angle. The results are discussed in terms of the electron-promotion model.
