Studies of the polymerization of o‐chlorophenyl glycidyl ether initiated by potassium hydroxide in heterogeneous systems showed that reaction to be of first order with respect to the monomer. The first‐order reaction rate constant k1 was found to depend on the amount of the polar solvent, e.g. dimethyl sulfoxide, present in the system. Polarity of solvent and the solubility of the initiator in the reaction system used were found to play a significant role in the polymerization of o‐chlorophenyl glycidyl ether.
