The compounds, Ca2Fe2−xMxO5, with M=Ga3+ (0≤x≤1.5) or Sc3+ (0≤x≤0.5), have the Ca2Fe2O5 structure and exhibit antiferromagnetic order within both the tetrahedrally and octahedrally coordinated sublattices. Sc3+ substitutes almost exclusively in octahedral sites while Ga3+ prefers tetrahedral coordination. The Mössbauer effect has been used to measure both the Néel temperature and the distribution of nonmagnetic ions on the two sublattices for several substituted compounds.
