Simultaneous high-speed photometry and time-resolved spectroscopic observations of two large flares on UV Ceti are presented. Marked spectroscopic and photometric differences between the two flares are noted, and spectroscopic and photometric changes during the flares are correlated. For the larger flare, spectrophotometry shows the Balmer lines to contribute 16 percent of the flare intensity in the B-bandpass. The larger flare is compared with the theoretical models of Gurzadyan and Kunkel, and significant discrepancies are found. An interpretation in terms of shock-wave propagation is suggested.
