I and human beings,L ' 8 33 6, 17, Barr and his associatcs demonstrated sexual differences in the inorphology of intermitotic nuclei of the cells of noirrial tissues. BrieBy, thew workers described a conspicuous mass of chromatin, termed "sex chromatin" by them, that is Pound in the majority ok nuclei of females. The nuclei of males rarely contain a chromatin body that in size, shape, or position is comparable to the sex chromatin of female nuclei. 'l'he distinctive sex chromatin is approximately 1 p in size'g and is usually planocoiivex in shape, lying with its flattened aspect in contact with the nuclear membrane. At times, the conhguration may be triangular, discoid, bellshaped, or circular.17 Its size, shape, and position usual11 distinguish it readily from other particulate chromatin material, as well as from the nucleolus.
