Reaction between Cd2+ and Na4[Re6S8(CN)6] in aqueous solution affords the porous solid [Cd2(H2O)4][Re6S8(CN)6]·14H2O. As determined by X-ray crystallographic analysis, its structure consists of an expanded Prussian blue type framework with [Re6S8]2+ and [Cd2(μ-OH2)2]4+ cluster cores occupying alternate metal ion sites. Experiments probing the thermal stability and inclusion properties of this new solid material are described.
