Enhanced NIR emission due to characteristic transitions of Ln 3+ ions in Li 2 ZnGeO 4 is observed. Decay curve analysis indicates that the emission from the excited states of Ln 3+ ions in Li 2 ZnGeO 4 is long-lived.
