The energy density of a hybrid supercapacitor having CoS 2 against activated carbon was increased by direct lithiation of metal sulfide before capacitor fabrication. Lithiation augmented the energy density by two-fold at all current rates and also is responsible for maintaining the capacitance retention during cycling due to the non-depletion of lithium ions in the electrolyte.
