This paper examines how a number of determinants affect students' destination choices for their summer vacation trip. By means of a multinomial regression procedure on 583 students attending a medium‐sized Norwegian university college, two main findings are presented. General vacation motives and trip‐specific motives are very important determinants of destination choice. By contrast, socio‐demographic characteristics are not. Both managerial and scholarly implications of the study's findings are discussed.
