Following the earthquake in 1940 in the vicinity of El Centro, California, existing triangulation was reobserved to determine the magnitude and direction of shift of individual stations. A comparison of the results indicates that all stations east of the fault line shifted southeast and stations west of the fault shifted in the opposite direction. Maximum displacement between stations was about ten feet.
