Stem rust is one of the most harmful wheat diseases. The Ug99 race of the causative agent of the disease ( Puccinia graminis Perf. f. sp. tritici ), which is virulent to most varieties of wheat, has a pathotype TTKS composition. According to Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) forecasts, this disease may spread eastward of Iran into many countries of Central Asia, including Kazakhstan. The Sr2, Sr22, Sr24 / Lr24 , and Sr46 genes provide protection from the Ug99 race. Screening of samples for the presence of efficient genes of the stem rust resistance was conducted for a promising wheat breeding. Using molecular markers, the Sr2 gene was identified in 12 samples; the Sr24 / Lr24 gene, in 7 samples; the Sr46 gene, in 1 sample; and the Sr22 gene, in 6 lines. The results obtained are used in Kazakhstan for developing varieties of wheat that are resistant to stem rust (using MAS selection).
