A complete reversal of magnetic coupling in transition-metal ion clusters can be achieved by varying the number of d electrons on the metal centers. Ferromagnetic MnIII−MnIII and a S = 12 ground state are observed in the cyclic complex [NaMn6(OMe)12(dbm)6]+, whereas the iron(III) analogue has S = 0.
