As an important approach for the utilization of abundant natural gas (the main component being methane, CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2) reforming of CH4 has attracted extensive attention due to its strong energy‐storage capacity and the accompanying benefits of turning the least expensive and abundant carbon resource, CO2, into valuable compounds. CO2 and CH4 are stable molecules, which pose great challenges in effectively activating the two molecules. Catalysts play an important role in the reaction of CO2 reforming of CH4, and designing suitable catalysts is the key to the activation of CH4 and CO2. Recently, substantial catalysts have been developed for CO2 reforming of CH4, with several computational studies being carried out to uncover the underlying reaction mechanisms. Herein, the recent achievements of catalyst designed for CO2 reforming of CH4 are summarized, with the aim to provide a clear picture and deepen the understanding of this promising reaction.
