Eight approaches to language programs for hearing-impaired children are examined and consideration given to both the strengths and the shortcomings of each. Following this, an approach to language learning is suggested which makes greater use of conversation, facilitative activities, and specific systematic experiences. This trilogy should be based on naturally occurring behaviors in authentic real-world environments.
