One approach to insect control is to induce host-insect asynchrony by interfering with plant growth processes (Eidt and Little 1968, Smith 1968). We are investigating means of delaying budbreak in balsam fir, Abies balsamea (L.) Miller, and the resultant effect on survival of the spruce budworm, Choristoneura fumiferana (Clemens).
