The spin lattice relaxation time has been measured in liquid and solid potassium over the temperature range 253°K to 433°K. The relaxation times have been compared with the theory of Helman for the liquid state. The experimental relaxation time at 373°k is 3–4±0.2 × 10−10sec compared with the theoretical value of 2.4 × 10−10 sec, the ratio of these times being similar to that found for sodium. The temperature dependence of the relaxation time in the liquid agrees with that predicted theoretically.
