Highlights Higher yield especially to aquic soils comparing to other locations worldwide indicates a very promising crop for biomass production. Average dry biomass yield of 18 Mg ha1 with supplementary irrigation (250 mm) which is higher than other crops (e.g. corn). Maximum growth rate of 390 kg ha1 day1 indicates a high change in dryweight over summer time. Organ partitioning rates: 1922, 6871 & 1012% for leaf-, stem- & flower/total were not effect by irrigation and fertilization management showing the stable quality of biomass. Highest leaf area index of 7.59 which leads to higher growth and photosynthetic rates.
