The application of HPLC for the purpose of separation of some amino acid racemates with aromatic substituents is described. Using simple untreated cellulose with an average particle size of 7 μm as stationary phase, complete resolution of D,L‐tryptophane and D,L‐5‐hydroxytryptophane can be obtained. D,L‐3,4‐dihydroxyphenylalanine is resolved partially. The α‐value and resolution for D,L‐tryptophane was found to be 1.5.
