Ultrasonic measurements are reported on K 0.95 Li 0.05 TaO 3 in a frequency range from 10 7 to 10 9 Hz and in a temperature range from 4 K to 200 K. The data for T>or=75 K are discussed in terms of a relaxation process associated with pi /2 reorientations and quadrupole moments induced by off-centre Li impurities. Relaxation is slightly polydispersive and follows an Arrhenius law with an excitation energy of 1070 K; there is no critical retardation. The Arrhenius parameters are similar to those found for nuclear magnetic relaxation. Below 70 K the data are indicative of scattering of acoustic waves by macroscopic domains.
