The dislocation structure formed in the uniaxial compression of CdS single crystals oriented for single slip on {0001} and {0110} planes is studied using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Burgers vectors are shown to belong to 1/3 〈1120〉. The predominance of long segments of screw dislocations as well as a high density of dislocation loops of small sizes are observed. The correlation between the results obtained and a series of important physical properties of CdS crystals is discussed.
