Electrochemical water splitting provides a prospective route for hydrogen production, and the design of advanced dual-functional catalysts with exceptional activity and affordable cost is imperative yet challenging. In this study, we propose a rational strategy to fabricate the Pt-anchored NiFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) on carbon cloth (Pt/LDH/CC) by a mild solvothermal process and an in situ reduction strategy. The incorporation of Pt rationally regulates the electronic properties of NiFe-LDH and further affects the electrocatalytic ability. Benefiting from the synergy between two components and the nanosheet array morphology, the obtained Pt/LDH shows enhanced electrocatalytic activity and stability in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Moreover, when assembled in a two-electrode system, Pt/LDH also displays exceptional catalytic capacity (possesses a small voltage of 1.557 V at 10 mA cm –2 ) and remarkable stability in electrochemical water splitting. This work offers a feasible pathway to develop cost-effective dual-functional catalysts for water electrolysis.
