Case series demonstrates outcomes of mini-open transdeltoid biceps tenodesis in shoulder patients, suggesting effective soft-tissue fixation outside the bicipital groove.
Tenodesis of the proximal biceps can involve either a very proximal or more distal reattachment by a variety of fixation methods, using soft tissue or bony fixation. Long-term studies have suggested that both tenodesis and tenotomy have successful long-term results. Tenodesis distal to the intertubercular groove of the proximal humerus has the advantage of relieving pain from potential bicipital groove tenosynovitis or osteophytes and can be performed through a mini-open incision. This study describes a novel technique for performing biceps soft-tissue tenodesis to the anterior deltoid at its humeral attachment, outside the bicipital groove. We also provide results of this procedure in a series of our patients.
