The Peyer Texlab system (Peyer) measures fiber length distribution. Cotton arrays are taken before and after each processing operation, and the change in length distri bution indicates fiber damage during processing. However, the Fibroliner used in the system also loses or breaks fibers. To measure the differences in fiber length distribution caused by the Fibroliner, three varieties of cotton were sent to USDA, AMS, Clemson, where they were sorted into known length groups using the Suter-Webb method. These three sorted varieties of known length distributions were re-sorted with the Fibroliner and analyzed with the Almeter. The results show a discrepancy in the short fiber content and the presence of fibers that were not in the original array.
