Single phase specimen of polycrystalline Ba 2 Fe 2 O 5 , which has been a candidate for CO 2 absorbents, was prepared by solid state reaction method in N 2 gas flow (log p ( O 2 ) ~10 −4 atm). Ba 2 Fe 2 O 5 showed weight increase above 500°C in CO 2 gas flow, which is originated from the CO 2 absorption. In CO 2 gas flow, the weight decrease due to the CO 2 desorption was observed above 1100°C. Thermogravimetry and X‐ray diffraction measurements have revealed that Ba 2 Fe 2 O 5 can reversibly react with CO 2 , which is represented as Ba 2 Fe 2 O 5 + CO 2 ↔ BaCO 3 + BaFe 2 O 4 . Thermodynamic calculation of the reaction was carried out, showing agreement with the results obtained by thermogravimetry. From the calculation, it has been revealed that Ba 2 Fe 2 O 5 can react with CO 2 at a higher temperature than Li 4 SiO 4 regardless of partial pressure of CO 2 ( p ( CO 2 )), indicating that Ba 2 Fe 2 O 5 has a higher potential as CO 2 absorbent than Li 4 SiO 4 .
