We present a three parameter model, derived from basic considerations of module behaviour, and suitable for several PV module technologies. For a number of different c-Si modules, the model parameters were derived from comprehensive flasher laboratory measurements and from manufacturer’s data sheets. The uncertainty of model parameterization is assessed via a comparison of both approaches and a short sensitivity analysis. It turns out that the simplicity of the model is not a constraint. Instead, the derivation of model parameters from the original manufacturer’s data sheets turned out to be a major source of uncertainties. To improve this situation, a revision of some standards concerned with module specification might be reasonable.
