An acquired flat-foot deformity caused by dysfunction of the tendon of tibialis posterior is common but often missed. Rupture of the tendon was first described in 1953. They concluded that satisfactory results could not be obtained in cases of delayed repair and loss of tendon substance. There were no further reports of the condition for another ten years. Since then, methods of treatment have evolved and the pathology and function of the tendon have been extensively investigated.
