The transient species BO(OH)2- was generated in situ and stabilized through hydrogen bonding with its nearest neighbors in the host lattice of (CH3)4N+BO(OH)2-·2(NH2)2CO·H2O, which consists of a parallel arrangement of unidirectional channels. The inclusion compound [(C2H5)4N+]2CO32-·(NH2)2CO·2B(OH)3·H2O features a sandwiched structure, in which the boric acid molecules link the carbonate anions and urea molecules to form a double ribbon, and the water molecules cross-bridge the double ribbons to form the layer-type host lattice.
