A gas phase isotope exchange reaction has been found to occur between nitric oxide and nitrite esters, RO15NO + 14NO RO14NO + 15NO. The reaction is first order with respect to both nitrite ester and nitric oxide. For the reaction with trifluoroethyl nitrite, the second order rate constant is given by the equation , and for the reaction with ethyl nitrite .
