Methacrylacetone (1‐hexene‐2‐methyl‐3,5‐dione) has been synthesized and its properties investigated. The monomer is capable of polymerizing when cross‐linked a chelating resin with an affinity to ferric‐and uranyl‐irons, specific in the PH region below 7. Copolymers of methacrylacetone and methacrylic acid possess chelating properties as well.
