Six molybdenocenes, incorporating bidentate O,O, O,S, and O,N -chelating ligands, have been synthesized and characterized including X-ray diffraction for one example. The complexes were shown to be stable in aqueous solution for up to 24 h. The anticancer activity against three human cancer cell lines was highest for the flavonol-based organometallics, with IC 50 values in the low micromolar to submicromolar range. Investigation of human serum albumin binding showed no relevant HSA binding under physiological conditions.
