The interaction between two nearest atoms in compressed solid helium is investigated by a complete quantum calculation, where screening effects from nearby atoms are considered. The results show that the interatomic potentials are reduced by 37.8%, 49.7% and 58.2% compared with their individual pair potentials respectively for crystal specific volumes of 4.046, 2.711 and 1.708 cm 3 mol -1 .
