Experimental and numerical analysis reveals how panel joints govern cross-laminated timber wall strength, highlighting a simplified method to quantify transverse wall effects.
In CLT panel construction, incorporating transverse walls increases the horizontal load-bearing capacity. However, to ensure this effect through specification requirements, there was a challenge in clarifying the details of the connection method with the transverse walls. This paper clarifies the influence of factors such as the joint between wall panels and upper horizontal members on the performance of CLT shear walls incorporating transverse walls, through full-scale experiments and numerical analyses. A simplified evaluation method for the transverse wall effect is also proposed.
