Theological analysis reveals the protective value of pastoral accompaniment for immigrant communities, highlighting Hispanic ministry as a core ecclesiastical mission amid political polarization.
Drawing on the experience of the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s Office of Hispanic Ministry, this chapter offers a theological and pastoral analysis of how immigrant communities are accompanied in a context of fear and hope, shaped by anti-immigrant narratives and policies in the United States. It further argues that Hispanic ministry—which serves thousands of immigrants and people of Latin American heritage living in the United States—is not merely an appendage of the Catholic Church’s mission but a concrete expression of it, called to walk alongside migrants in a country marked by political polarization.
