Prospective observational study reveals actionable microbiological findings from CT-targeted bronchial lavage in bronchiectasis, indicating clinical utility beyond standard care.
Extract We read with great interest the recent research letter by De Angelis et al. [1] entitled “How bronchoscopy can impact bronchiectasis management: a prospective, observational study” published in ERJ Open Research. The authors reported that chest computed tomography (CT)-targeted bronchoscopy to retrieve bronchial lavage fluid (BLF) provided clinically actionable microbiological information and frequently prompted changes in management, while remaining safe with a low rate of minor adverse events.
