Emergency radical surgery successfully clears bilateral prosthetic endocarditis in repaired tetralogy of Fallot.
Why the study?
Infective endocarditis after repaired tetralogy of Fallot can rapidly progress when prosthetic material is involved.
Case Report (n=1)
Transesophageal echocardiography is crucial for early diagnosis of infective endocarditis in patients with repaired congenital heart disease, and timely surgical intervention is essential when prosthetic material is involved to prevent extensive intracardiac spread.
Supports emergency surgery in rare prosthetic IE after TOF repair; hypothesis-generating for timing and selection in congenital cohorts.
Infective endocarditis after repaired tetralogy of Fallot can rapidly progress when prosthetic material is involved. We report bilateral multivalvular endocarditis undetected by transthoracic echocardiography but identified by transesophageal echocardiography. Early diagnosis and timely surgical intervention are essential to prevent extensive intracardiac spread.

Ikeuchi et al. (2026) conducted a case report in Infective endocarditis (n=1). Emergency surgical intervention was evaluated. Emergency surgical intervention successfully eradicated rapidly progressive bilateral infective endocarditis involving prosthetic material in a patient with repaired tetralogy of Fallot.
