Computational modeling study demonstrates a modular operational forecasting system for coastal waters, highlighting scalable prediction of sea level, waves, and temperature.
Operational oceanography is crucial for the management of water bodies of high socioeconomic relevance such as the Río de la Plata and its Maritime Front. This work presents the architecture of the PronUy_RPFM forecasting system, designed with a modular approach that facilitates the development and operation of various prototypes based on hydrodynamic numerical models. The system operates sequentially and automatically through interconnected components, centralising the storage of external forcings, measurements, and prototype results in a database. This modular and adaptable architecture enables the generation of forecasts for various variables from different prototypes, using the same central infrastructure. To demonstrate its effectiveness, three PronUy_RPFM Prototypes are described: The first one (Prototype_1), which has been operational and publicly accessible for several years, dedicated to real-time sea level forecasting and the new developments Prototype_2 (water temperature forecast) and Prototype_3 (wave forecast) are presented. The PronUy_RPFM system provides a robust and scalable solution that supports continuous improvement and the integration of new forecasting products for the region.
