A Ni33Co67 alloy with snowflake-like morphology (ASM) was successfully synthesised in high yield by a facile solvothermal method without surfactant. The concentration of NaOH that affected the Ni–Co morphology was investigated systematically. The values of saturation magnetisation, remnants magnetisation and coercivity of the Ni33Co67 ASM were about 130.5 emu/g, 35.6 emu/g and 0.0302 Tl, respectively. Finally, the authors evaluated the catalytic property of the Ni33Co67 ASM using a model reaction based on the reduction of p-nitrophenol by NaBH4, and the rate constant exhibited good catalytic activity.
