The eight mono-hydroxyethyl ethers of method alpha- and beta-D-glucopyranoside have been prepared and their acid hydrolysis investigated. They were all hydrolysed at a lower rate than the unsubstituted glucosides. The results are discussed in relation to similar studies of other ethers of these glucosides and to the acid hydrolysis of polysaccharides. (Author)
