Procedures for identification of corrosion products on cobalt and cobalt alloys are classified under the headings: examination, removal, detection and analysis (physical and/or chemical). The analysis technique employed depends largely on the amount of corrosion-product sample available and whether or not this material can be examined in situ. A number of articles in the literature on oxidation of cobalt and cobalt-containing alloys are summarized herein, to illustrate identification techniques and results. 3.4.3, 6.3.4, 3.2.3
