We have studied the behavior of prepared by reactive sintering of mixture, as the active material of secondary batteries. The constructed cell using this material as a negative electrode together with a positive electrode showed an open‐circuit voltage of 1.48V, which proved to be stable over a long period of time. The coulombic efficiency was close to 100% over at least 3000 complete charge‐discharge cycles at a constant current. The chemical stability of the electrodes and the nature of the surfaces were also studied by AES/EPMA/SEM techniques.
