The structure of (L-alaninato-N,O)chloro(η 6 -1,3,5-trimethylbenzene)ruthenium(II), [RuCl(C 3 H 6 NO 2 )(C 9 H 12 )], has been determined. The crystal contains two diastereoisomers having opposite chiralities at the metal centre. There is evidence of intermolecular hydrogen bonding between the amine protons of one diastereomer and the chloride of the other
