Treatment of prepubertal male rats under constant illumination with 100, 300 and 500 μg of melatonin resulted in a decrease in the weight of the anterior pituitary and seminal vesicles, whereas only the 500 μg dose significantly affected the testicular weight. No changes took place in the gonadotrophic levels of FSH or LH in the pituitary gland. Two hypotheses are suggested to explain this apparent discrepancy. (Endocrinology84: 937, 1969)
