Abstract After a brief account of the properties of the autoregressive scheme, a double autoregression is fitted to the observed sunspot intensities in the northern and southern solar hemispheres. The results obtained confirm H. Alfven's theory of sunspot generation and give evidence of a number of new phenomena.
