Aedes rempeli Vockeroth, the rarest Canadian Aedes mosquito, breeds in unusually cold, stenothermal rock pools in low arctic Canada. The species presents an unusual opportunity for laboratory colonization of a northern Aedes since it mates readily in confined spaces in the laboratory and the females mature the ovaries without a blood meal.
