The validity of an approximation used in the derivation of the standard analytic formula for the radiation produced by an ideal undulator is examined. Efficient algorithms for calculating the spectral and angular distributions including the effect of electron beam emittance are described. Results from a computer program that allows a number of different calculations to be performed with a range of approximations are presented.
