This paper points out that the nonlinear coupling of a large‐amplitude electromagnetic pump wave with convective plasma fluid instabilities is significantly enhanced by pump‐induced temperature changes. It should thus be easy to exceed the threshold values for parametric instabilities in several ionospheric heating experiments.
