Strong pyrene excimer fluorescence is observed in the SAM derived from disulfide-functionalized bis-pyrene derivative on gold surface at the pyrene surface coverage similar to that exhibits only weak monomer fluorescence in the SAM derived from disulfide-functinalized monopyrene derivative. The pyrene excimer is less sensitive to the quenching by gold substrate than pyrene monomer excited state. The photocurrent generates from the excimer emissive SAM more effectively than the monomer emissive SAM.
