All articles of this category Mono- and dialkylated malononitriles (geminal dinitriles) are reductively decyanated to mononitriles (10 examples) on treatment with tributyltin hydride and a catalytic amount of 2,2′-azobisisobutyronitrile in refluxing benzene. A mechanism for this reaction is also proposed.
