The L-shell X-ray intensity ratios I(L l )/I(L alpha ), I(L beta )/I(L alpha ), I(L gamma )/I(L alpha ) for tungsten (W) and I(L l )/I(L alpha ), I(L eta )/I(L alpha ), I(L beta )/I(L alpha ), I(L gamma )/I(L alpha ) for mercury (Hg) have been measured at 17.8, 25.8 and 46.9 keV with a Si(Li) detector. A comparison is made of the experimental results with the calculated values obtained by using the theoretical X-ray emission rates, subshell ionisation cross sections, subshell fluorescence yields and Coster-Kronig transition probabilities. The experimental results are in reasonable agreement with the theoretical values.
