Intravenous amiodarone was administered to 14 patients during prolonged resuscitation from refractory cardiac arrest, but clinical outcomes are not reported in the truncated abstract.
Observational (n=14)
This early report describes the administration of intravenous amiodarone for patients with refractory ventricular arrhythmias during prolonged in-hospital cardiac arrest.
Case report of IV amiodarone in refractory arrest is hypothesis-generating; leaves open efficacy and outcomes.

Intravenous amiodarone may produce rapid control of frequently recurring ventricular tachycardia when given outside the setting of cardiac arrest (3-7). Therefore, we administered amiodarone intravenously to 14 patients during prolonged in-hospital resuscitation from refractory cardiac arrest due to ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation from October 1982 through February 1988. Clinical details, obtained from review of hospital records, are...References1. BedellDelbancoCookEpstein STEF. Survival after cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the hospital. Williams et al. (1989) conducted an observational in Refractory cardiac arrest due to ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation (n=14). Intravenous amiodarone was evaluated. Intravenous amiodarone was administered to 14 patients during prolonged resuscitation from refractory cardiac arrest, but clinical outcomes are not reported in the truncated abstract.
